Three reading modes

Single page, double-page spread, or vertical scroll for webtoons. Read left to right or right to left.

Folders, CBZ/ZIP, CBR/RAR

Open folders or archives, including nested archives up to three levels deep. Pages follow natural filename order.

Keyboard-first

Turn pages, jump to a page, bookmark a favorite scene, and change layouts from the keyboard. See shortcuts for each platform below.

Smooth reading

Zoom, fit to screen, width or height, and browse page thumbnails without leaving the reader.

Bookmarks & favorites

Save a page bookmark or star a book for quick access from the library.

Resume where you left off

Each app remembers your reading position and per-series reading settings on that device.

Open from your file manager

On macOS, use Finder’s Open With menu. On Windows, add the optional “Open with Panely” entry in Settings.

Read comics in a language you don’t know

Experimental on-device translation reads speech balloons and places a machine translation over the page. Both apps let you correct balloons and export translated books; quality and available features vary by platform.

macOS

Requires macOS 26 or later. Uses Apple’s on-device text recognition and Google’s Gemma 4 E2B, run on your Mac’s GPU after a one-time 3.35 GB download.

Windows

Download the models once (about 3.7 GB), then translate offline with local OCR and Google’s Gemma 4 E2B. Runs on the GPU (Vulkan); without a usable GPU it runs several times slower on the CPU. Translation is experimental; misread text can be mistranslated.

Install & open Panely

Choose the instructions for your platform. Both apps run without administrator installation.

macOS

  1. Download and unzip the macOS release. Move Panely.app into Applications.
  2. Panely is not notarized by Apple. If Gatekeeper blocks it, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway beside the Panely notice.
  3. Confirm the system prompt, then open a folder or comic archive in Panely.

Windows

  1. Choose x64 for most Intel / AMD PCs, or ARM64 for Windows on ARM. Extract the ZIP to a folder you keep.
  2. Run Panely.exe. No installer, administrator rights, or separate .NET runtime is needed.
  3. The app is not code-signed. If SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC,” choose More info → Run anyway.

To update, close Panely and replace the folder’s contents with the new ZIP. Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.txt on the release page.
